By Air

Kraków John Paul II International Airport (KRK) is located about 11km from the city center. It's Poland's second-busiest airport with connections across Europe.

  • Taxi: ~50-80 PLN (15-20 min)

By Train

Kraków Główny is the main railway station, conveniently located near the Old Town. Direct connections from Warsaw, Prague, Vienna, and other major cities.

  • From Warsaw: 2.5-3 hours by Intercity
  • From Prague: 7-8 hours
  • From Vienna: 4.5-5 hours

By Bus

Long-distance buses arrive at Kraków MDA bus station, adjacent to the main railway station. Often cheaper than trains for certain routes.

  • From Warsaw: 5-6 hours
  • From Prague: 8-9 hours
  • From Budapest: 6-7 hours

Public Transportation

Krakow has an extensive public transport network operated by MPK (Miejskie Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacyjne). The system includes trams and buses that cover the entire city and suburbs.

Trams

Trams are the most convenient way to get around the city center. Lines 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 10, 13, 18, and 20 serve the Old Town area. Trams run frequently from around 5 AM to 11 PM.

Buses

Buses complement the tram network, serving areas not covered by trams. Night buses (numbered 300+) operate from 11 PM to 5 AM.

Tips: Buy tickets at machines, kiosks, or via the jakdojade mobile app. Validate your ticket immediately upon boarding. Tickets are valid for both trams and buses.

Taxi

Taxis are readily available throughout the city. Look for licensed taxis with the "Kraków" crest and visible taxi sign. Avoid unmarked vehicles.

Walking

The Old Town is pedestrian-friendly and most attractions are within walking distance. The historic center is compact and best explored on foot.

Cycling
